Hyperliquid to Launch Decentralized Prediction Markets in HIP-4 Upgrade

Hyperliquid is adding decentralized prediction markets to its platform. The HIP-4 upgrade will introduce permissionless markets where users can create and trade on any outcome. The feature will first appear on testnet before moving to mainnet.

What the HIP-4 Upgrade Brings

The upgrade opens the door for anyone to launch a prediction market without needing approval. One example given: a market asking whether a certain asset's price will hit $100 by December 31, 2026, with a current YES price of 29%. That means traders can bet on the outcome, and the market will settle based on real-world data.

Permissionless Design

Permissionless means no gatekeepers. Any user can create a market on any topic, as long as the resolution criteria are clear. This is a shift from traditional prediction platforms that often vet markets before listing. Hyperliquid's approach puts the control in the hands of the community.

Testnet First, Then Mainnet

The rollout follows a two-step plan. First, the prediction markets will launch on testnet, where users can experiment without real funds. After testing, they'll go live on mainnet. No specific dates have been given for either phase.

The HIP-4 upgrade is part of Hyperliquid's broader push to expand its decentralized exchange offerings. Prediction markets join existing features like spot trading and perpetuals.

Users are watching for the testnet launch. Once live, the community will see how the permissionless model works in practice. The mainnet release will follow after any issues are ironed out. For now, the example market at 29% YES gives a hint of what's coming.
