Institutions Gobble Up Over 500% of Daily Bitcoin Supply as Accumulation Surges

A fresh batch of data from Capriole Investments founder Charles Edwards shows institutions are now absorbing more than five times the daily newly mined Bitcoin supply. The figure, compiled from treasury companies and ETF holdings, marks a sharp acceleration in accumulation that historically has led to a 24% average price gain over the next month.

The numbers behind the buying

Edwards tracked the rate of change in institutional Bitcoin holdings and found it spiked recently. His measure compares the flow into known corporate treasuries and spot ETFs against the daily mining output — which itself got cut in half at the last halving. Right now, that ratio sits above 500%. That means every coin minted is being swept up, along with more from existing inventory.

Why the timing matters

The supply squeeze isn't new — the halving already throttled new issuance — but the demand side has clearly kicked up a gear. Edwards highlighted that when institutional buying reached comparable levels in previous cycles, Bitcoin's price rallied an average of 24% over the following four weeks. From current levels around $78,700, that would put the target near $97,000. The move would require buyers to keep absorbing supply at this pace, but the data suggests they're not letting up.

Who's doing the buying

The numbers pull from public corporate disclosures and ETF flow reports, though Edwards didn't name every entity. The trend includes both dedicated Bitcoin treasury companies and the growing roster of spot ETFs that launched in the U.S. last year. Both categories have been net buyers for months, but the recent spike points to a coordinated increase in appetite — not just routine accumulation.

Bitcoin is up about 1% over the past week, but the institutional flow data suggests the real move may still be ahead. The next big test will be whether the price can hold above the $78,000 mark and build momentum toward the historical average target. If the accumulation pattern holds, the market could see a breakout within weeks.
