Kraken Parent Payward Taps Singapore Gulf Bank for Instant Settlement Rails

Payward, the parent company of Kraken, has plugged into Singapore Gulf Bank's SGB Net, bringing always-on settlement to institutional digital-asset trading desks. The two firms announced the integration on October 5. As part of the arrangement, Singapore Gulf Bank will onboard Kraken Prime as an additional source of digital-asset liquidity.

What SGB Net actually does

SGB Net is Singapore Gulf Bank's settlement network, and the pitch is simple: institutional crypto desks shouldn't have to wait for banking hours to move money. Always-on, or instant, settlement means a trade doesn't sit in limbo overnight or over a weekend while the traditional rails catch up.

That matters more than it sounds. Institutional traders have spent years complaining that crypto markets run 24/7 while the dollars and other fiat backing those trades do not. The mismatch forces firms to hold bigger buffers, take on counterparty risk, or simply sit out windows when a bank is closed. Plugging a bank-grade settlement network directly into an exchange's institutional arm is one way to close that gap.

Kraken Prime gets a new liquidity pipe

The deal runs both ways. Singapore Gulf Bank isn't just providing rails — it's also taking Kraken Prime on as a source of digital-asset liquidity. Kraken Prime is the exchange's offering for institutional and high-touch clients, the kind of desks that care about execution and settlement speed in equal measure.

For the bank, that means access to a deeper pool of digital assets without having to build out its own sourcing. For Kraken, it means an institutional banking counterparty that's now embedded in its settlement flow. Neither side disclosed the financial terms, and no timeline was given for when the full integration goes live beyond the October 5 announcement.

Why Singapore keeps coming up

Singapore has been a magnet for crypto firms looking for a regulatory regime that's strict but legible. The city-state has spent years refining its licensing framework while courting institutional players rather than retail speculation. A bank there building a settlement network tailored to digital assets fits that pattern.

It's also a reminder that the boring plumbing — settlement, custody, liquidity sourcing — is where a lot of the institutional crypto story is actually happening right now. Exchange integrations and bank partnerships don't generate headlines the way token launches do. They just determine whether big money can move without friction.

The institutional pitch, again

Kraken has been steadily building out its institutional stack, and Payward's corporate structure lets it strike deals like this one through the parent rather than the exchange brand itself. The company hasn't said whether SGB Net settlement will extend to other Payward products or stay confined to Kraken Prime clients.

That's the open question worth watching. If always-on settlement works as advertised for institutional desks, the next step would presumably be broadening it across more of Kraken's business. For now, the integration is announced and the two firms are moving toward onboarding. No go-live date has been given.
