South Korean IT giant LG CNS and trading firm POSCO International have launched a pilot to tokenize live trade receivables on the Injective blockchain. The project, announced this week, marks one of the first real-world tests of tokenized trade finance by major corporate groups. If successful, it could accelerate blockchain adoption in global trade by demonstrating concrete efficiency gains.

What the pilot involves

The two companies are using Injective, a blockchain built for finance, to represent trade receivables — essentially IOUs from buyers — as digital tokens. This allows those assets to be tracked, verified, and potentially traded more quickly than through traditional paper-based or centralized systems. The pilot is live, meaning it's processing actual trade transactions rather than simulated data.

Trade finance has long been a target for blockchain proponents, but adoption has been slow. Most pilots never leave the sandbox. LG CNS and POSCO International are taking a different approach: running real receivables through the system. That gives the project credibility. If the pilot shows faster settlement, lower costs, or fewer errors, it could reshape how financial ecosystems handle cross-border trade.
