Jeffrey Huang, better known as Machi Big Brother, cut his Ethereum long on Hyperliquid by more than half over the past month, trimming from 5,264 ETH to 2,500 ETH between July 14 and August 14. The reduction pushed his liquidation price up to $1,859.15, and as of August 14 at 3:51:43 PM UTC, the market price sat just $22.50 above that level — a 1.21% buffer. During the same stretch, he sold three Bored Apes at a loss.
The shrinking position
Huang's long was reduced by 52.51% in the span of a month. The liquidation price climbed $102.39, from $1,756.76 to $1,859.15. With 25x leverage on the remaining 2,500 ETH, the account is sitting uncomfortably close to the edge — $1,881.65 market price against a $1,859.15 liquidation trigger.
That's a thin cushion. A 1.21% drop in ETH would wipe the position. The account is publicly tracked by Lookonchain and verified via Etherscan (machibigbrother.eth) and HypurrScan, so the numbers are open for anyone to check.
The Bored Ape sales
Huang also sold three Bored Apes at a loss this month. The first, #251, went on July 14 for a 6.99 ETH loss. Then #5670 sold on August 5 for 9 ETH after being bought for 84.99 ETH — a 75.99 ETH hit, or 89.4%. Most recently, #5715 sold on August 13 for 8.3 ETH, down from a 34.17 ETH purchase, a loss of 25.87 ETH.
The timing overlaps with the position trimming. But whether these sales funded margin calls or were just a separate cleanup isn't clear from the public trail.
Liquidations on July 31
On July 31, three liquidations closed on the same Hyperliquid account — 700 ETH, 560 ETH, and 448 ETH, totaling 1,708 ETH. The aggregate negative closed PnL came to roughly $96,301. That's a real hit, but it's not the whole story.
The account has been under pressure for weeks. The position reduction and the NFT sales both point to someone raising cash or cutting risk. But the direct link between the two remains unresolved — the public record doesn't fully connect the Bored Ape sales to the Hyperliquid position.
What happens next depends on where ETH goes. With a liquidation price that close to the market, a small move could force the remaining position to close. Huang hasn't said anything publicly about his plans.
