MetaMask Adds Cash App Pay via MoonPay for US Users

MetaMask has integrated Cash App Pay through MoonPay, giving US users a new way to buy crypto directly from their Cash App balance. The integration, live now, ties one of the most widely used self-custody wallets to a mainstream payments app — a step that could nudge crypto buying closer to everyday fintech habits.

Buying crypto with Cash App Pay

US users can now select Cash App Pay as a payment method when purchasing crypto through MetaMask's MoonPay-powered on-ramp. That removes the need to link a bank card or transfer funds separately — the purchase pulls from the Cash App balance. For the millions who already use Cash App for peer-to-peer payments, it's one less hurdle between fiat and digital assets.

Lowering the barrier to self-custody

The move is part of a broader push to make self-custody wallets easier to use. By meeting users where they already keep money, MetaMask is lowering the friction that often stops newcomers. The integration also reinforces the idea that buying crypto doesn't have to mean leaving your usual financial apps behind.

For MetaMask, the point is that users keep control of their keys. Cash App Pay becomes just another on-ramp into a wallet where the user remains in charge. That's a meaningful signal: mainstream payment methods can coexist with self-custody, rather than forcing users through custodial exchanges.

What's limited to the US right now

The rollout is limited to US users, a common starting point for fintech integrations of this kind. Whether it expands to other markets will depend on how it lands — and on how many Cash App users take the leap into self-custody.
