MEXC Pulls Out of Netherlands, Recommends Bybit EU as MiCAR Deadline Nears

MEXC is ending its operations in the Netherlands, citing the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR). The exchange is pointing Dutch users to Bybit EU, a Vienna-based platform that holds a MiCAR license from Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA). Users have until October 31 to make the switch, with final offboarding set for November 16.

Why MEXC is leaving

MiCAR requires any crypto-asset service provider operating in the EU to hold proper authorization. MEXC doesn't have that for the Netherlands, so it's ceasing operations there. The exchange said it will contact Dutch users directly with guidance on next steps and timelines.

What Dutch users need to do

The transition isn't automatic. Users who want to move to Bybit EU must create and verify a new account on their own. No accounts or assets will be migrated. MEXC is encouraging users to complete the move by October 31, with final offboarding on November 16. A dedicated landing page for Dutch users offers step-by-step guidance, FAQs, and customer support links.

What Bybit EU offers

Bybit EU operates under a MiCAR authorization granted by the Austrian FMA since May 2025. It segregates user funds from company assets, supports EUR top-ups and withdrawals via SEPA and iDEAL, and lists 115+ tokens across 135 trading pairs in both USDC and EUR. The platform is available in Dutch. New registrants can get a welcome package that includes bonus rewards, preferential trading fees, and cashback on the Bybit Card. Bybit EU GmbH is authorized to offer custody, exchange of crypto-assets for funds, exchange of crypto-assets for other crypto-assets, placing of crypto-assets, and transfer services for crypto-assets on behalf of clients. It serves customers across the entire EEA except Malta.

The MiCAR shake-up

Bybit EU is one of the first exchanges to secure a MiCAR license, and it's now positioning itself as a landing spot for users displaced by the regulation. Nazar Tymoshchuk, Regional Country Manager at Bybit, said the exchange is committed to providing a secure, seamless experience for transitioning users. Robert MacDonald, Chief Compliance Officer at MEXC, said partnering with Bybit ensures a secure, compliant, and seamless transition for users.

The clock is ticking. Dutch MEXC users have until October 31 to move their funds, and the exchange will fully offboard on November 16. For those who stay put, the options are limited.
