Three Missouri men have been indicted for conspiring to kidnap the parents of a Connecticut man who stole hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin, federal prosecutors said August 4. The plot fell apart when the men spotted security cameras, but a separate crew from Florida carried out the kidnapping days later.
The abandoned scheme
Between August 21 and August 24, 2024, Sedric Louis, 32, John Davis, 34, and Martel Williams, 27, traveled to Connecticut. They rented vehicles and bought supplies — air rifles and walkie-talkies. Over two days, they stalked the target and his parents. Their plan: force their way into the family home and demand the stolen cryptocurrency be transferred to accounts controlled by the scheme's coordinators.
But they backed out. The men feared home security cameras had captured them. They also grew frustrated with poor communication from co-conspirators. So they left.
The Florida crew
The next day, August 25, 2024, a different group from Florida executed the plan. They carjacked a Lamborghini Urus, beat and kidnapped the target's parents. Danbury Police arrested six Florida men over that violent incident. Those six have already pleaded guilty.
Alleged coordinators James Schwab, Adam Iza, and Saif Faiq were charged earlier. The intended target had himself participated in the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin, according to prosecutors.
Charges and pleas
A grand jury in New Haven returned the second superseding indictment against the Missouri trio on May 22, 2026. Each faces a Hobbs Act robbery conspiracy charge carrying up to 20 years in prison. Louis and Davis have been in custody since their arrests on June 25, 2026. Both pleaded not guilty in Bridgeport federal court on July 30. Williams entered a not guilty plea on July 17 and was released on bond.
US Attorney David X. Sullivan stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. The case continues. The six Florida men who carried out the kidnapping await sentencing. Trial dates for the Missouri trio have not been set.
