MoonPay has rolled out a new product called Headless Onramps that lets users buy cryptocurrency with a single tap through Apple Pay, Google Pay, or card payments. The feature is live across more than 100 countries, the company said this week.
How Headless Onramps Work
Instead of redirecting users to a separate MoonPay checkout page, the Headless Onramps embed the purchase flow directly into a partner's app or website. That means a user can tap a button, authenticate with their preferred payment method, and receive crypto in their wallet without leaving the platform they're already on. The whole process is designed to take just a few seconds.
Payment Methods and Global Reach
MoonPay's new onramps support Apple Pay, Google Pay, and standard credit or debit card payments. The company says the service is available in more than 100 countries, covering a wide range of local currencies and regulatory environments. That kind of geographic spread is rare for a single onramp integration.
What This Means for Developers
For developers and crypto platforms, the main draw is less friction. Integrating a typical onramp often requires building out a full checkout experience. Headless Onramps handle the payment flow on the backend, so the partner only needs to add a few lines of code. MoonPay's goal is to make buying crypto feel as simple as buying anything else online. The timing makes sense — user onboarding remains one of the biggest bottlenecks for crypto adoption.
