OKX Offers 50% Cashback on Netflix and ChatGPT for European Card Users

OKX is giving European card users 50% cashback on Netflix and ChatGPT subscriptions, a move aimed at pushing stablecoin adoption in the region. The perk, announced this week, applies to purchases made with OKX's card and paid in USDG, the exchange's dollar-pegged stablecoin.

Why Netflix and ChatGPT

The choice of streaming and AI services is deliberate. These are everyday digital subscriptions that millions of Europeans already pay for. By offering half the cost back in crypto, OKX wants to make stablecoins feel less like a niche trading tool and more like a normal way to pay for things.

The cashback is not a one-off promo. It's part of a broader strategy to turn USDG into a mainstream financial product, especially now that Europe's MiCA regulations have given stablecoins a clear legal framework. Under MiCA, issuers and exchanges have to follow strict rules on reserves and transparency. That clarity, OKX argues, makes it safer for regular consumers to hold and spend stablecoins.

The MiCA Factor

MiCA, the EU's crypto asset regulation, came into full force this year. It's the first comprehensive legal regime for stablecoins in a major economy. For exchanges like OKX, that means they can market stablecoins to a wider audience without the legal grey areas that used to exist.

But there's a catch. MiCA requires stablecoin issuers to hold sufficient reserves and redeem tokens at par on demand. That's a heavy operational burden. OKX's cashback offer is a way to generate real-world usage and demand for USDG, which in turn helps the exchange meet its liquidity requirements.

What Card Users Get

The cashback applies to card transactions made in EUR or other supported fiat currencies, but the reward is paid out in USDG. Users need to hold a balance in USDG to qualify. The offer covers both Netflix and ChatGPT subscriptions, which are typically recurring monthly payments.

OKX has not said how long the promotion will run or if there's a cap on the cashback amount. The exchange's card is available in several European countries, though not all. Users in the region can check the OKX app to see if their country is included.

Stablecoins as Everyday Money

The broader point here is that stablecoins are moving from exchange trading pairs to point-of-sale transactions. OKX is betting that once people use USDG for something as routine as a Netflix bill, they'll keep it for other purchases too.

It's a bold bet, but not without competition. Other exchanges have launched cashback programs for their own stablecoins. What sets OKX apart is the direct tie to MiCA's regulatory clarity, which gives the exchange a legal basis to market USDG as a trustworthy alternative to fiat.

The real test will come when the cashback offer ends. Will users keep their USDG balances and continue spending, or will they cash out? That's a question OKX will be watching closely as it decides whether to extend the promotion.
