OrdinalsBot, the first inscription service to launch in the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem, is closing up shop after three years. The team announced the decision in a post on X, saying the business isn't viable to sustain, and it's putting its brand, intellectual property, and entire technology stack up for sale.
What's on the block
The sale is being run through an open, competitive bidding process. The package includes the OrdinalsBot brand, IP, domains, social media accounts, the Discord community, GitHub presence, and more than 90 code repositories. That's a ready-made foundation for anyone who wants to build on Bitcoin without starting from zero.
Why it's closing
OrdinalsBot launched about a month after the Ordinals protocol went live in early 2023. But the Ordinals market has contracted sharply over the past year. The team said they explored restructuring and a business pivot, but concluded that continuing operations was no longer viable.
A rough stretch for crypto projects
OrdinalsBot isn't alone. According to RootData, more than 120 crypto projects have shut down, filed for bankruptcy, or gone dark so far this year. The closures span wallets, exchanges, NFT platforms, and DeFi tools. Last month, BitMEX and BitMart announced shutdowns, and DeFi portfolio tracker Zapper closed in August.
The founders are trying to sell the pieces rather than switch off the servers. They've informed investors and already begun receiving acquisition bids.
