Perplexity AI published a forecast this week projecting XRP could trade between $25 and $40 by January 1, 2027, with a stretch target above $50 in what it describes as an extreme institutional adoption scenario. The call lands while XRP is consolidating around $1.45-$1.55, roughly 16 to 27 times below the lower end of that range.
The prediction rests on assumptions that go well beyond anything currently announced. XRP was trading near $1.49-$1.53 as of September 30, 2026, after recovering from mid-September lows around $1.25-$1.30 and retaking key moving averages.
What the bull case actually requires
For XRP to reach $25, let alone $40 or $50, Perplexity's scenario assumes major central banks would name the XRP Ledger as a primary settlement layer for cross-border CBDCs and tokenized assets. It also assumes large banks could be required to hold XRP, and that sovereign wealth funds would accumulate the token in size.
None of those conditions exist today. They're hypotheticals stacked on top of each other, which is why the report itself flags the $25-$50 range as highly speculative and not a realistic base-case outlook.
The chart in front of traders
XRP is currently boxed in the $1.45-$1.55 region after testing highs near $1.63-$1.66. A sustained break above $1.70-$2.00 would open the door to the prior cycle high near $3.65 in a normal bull market. Nearer-term support sits at $1.40-$1.45, with a deeper floor around $1.30.
That's the gap investors are staring at: a token that just clawed back its moving averages versus a forecast that would require a reordering of global settlement infrastructure inside 15 months.
Where Maxi Doge fits in
Perplexity's note also touched on Maxi Doge ($MAXI), an Ethereum ERC-20 meme token currently in presale at $0.0002841 with $4.8 million raised. The project offers 60% APY staking, holder-only trading competitions with leaderboard rewards, and a Maxi Fund treasury earmarked for liquidity and partnerships.
It's a different kind of bet entirely. XRP's forecast hinges on central bank policy; Maxi Doge's appeal is staking yield and community incentives. The two shouldn't be lumped together just because they appeared in the same research drop.
What to watch from here
The near-term trigger is technical, not fundamental. XRP needs to hold $1.40-$1.45 and push through $1.70 before any of the longer-range targets become worth discussing. Until then, Perplexity's $25-$40 call is a scenario, not a signal.
No central bank has announced plans to adopt the XRP Ledger as a primary CBDC settlement layer. That's the missing piece the entire bull case depends on.
