Pi Network mainnet operators have until Friday to upgrade to Stellar Protocol v23 or lose network connectivity. The deadline comes as PiChain Global, the team behind Pi Network, deploys cross-chain smart contracts on two testnets and temporarily pauses its social app Meeta to free up resources.
Friday Upgrade Deadline for Mainnet Nodes
All Pi Network mainnet nodes must complete the Stellar Protocol v23 upgrade by end of the week. Those that don't will be cut off from the network. The upgrade is mandatory for continued participation in consensus and transaction validation. PiChain hasn't disclosed how many nodes are currently compliant, but operators have been urged to act before the cutoff.
Cross-Chain Smart Contracts on Testnets
PiChain Global has deployed cross-chain smart contracts on both Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and Optimism (OP) testnets. The move is part of broader ecosystem upgrades aimed at enabling interoperability between Pi Network and other blockchain platforms. The testnet deployments allow developers to trial cross-chain functionality before any mainnet launch. No timeline has been given for a production release.
Meeta Paused as Resources Shift
The team temporarily suspended the Meeta social application, citing resource limitations. Development efforts are being redirected toward cross-chain integration work. Meeta's pause is described as temporary, but no restart date has been offered. The decision underscores the trade-offs PiChain is making as it prioritizes technical infrastructure over consumer-facing features.
