Pi Network is pushing all mainnet nodes to upgrade to version v24 by June 2, warning that stragglers could be cut off from the canonical chain. The protocol update, announced May 28, comes as the network's native token PI fell 4.7% over the past seven days and as a portfolio company's gaming beta racked up more than 81,000 users in its first week.
Node upgrade deadline
Nodes have until June 2 to install the v24 patch, which requires about 15 minutes of expected downtime. The Pi Network team said nodes that fail to upgrade risk being disconnected, potentially causing instability on the mainnet. The warning was posted via the project's official Twitter account on May 28, giving operators roughly five days to comply.
CiDi Games beta goes live
CiDi Games, a Pi Network Ventures portfolio company, launched its beta inside the Pi Browser. The app offers 10 instant-access games spanning puzzle, idle, action, and competitive genres. Within less than a week, the platform attracted 81,000 Pioneers from more than 160 countries, generating over 1.2 million game sessions. The rapid adoption signals growing interest in utility apps built on the Pi ecosystem.
Price action this week
PI is trading at around $0.143 as of writing, with a market capitalization of nearly $1.53 billion and daily trading volume of about $8.7 million. The 4.7% decline this week puts the token near recent lows, though the network's user base — now over 50 million active Pioneers — remains a key narrative for supporters. The timing of the mandatory upgrade alongside a new consumer app could test whether utility drives price or vice versa.
The upgrade window closes June 2. Node operators who miss the deadline risk permanent disconnection. Meanwhile, CiDi Games says it will expand its game library based on early feedback. Whether the gaming beta can sustain momentum past its launch week is an open question.
