Quantum Solutions Sells 1,000 ETH to Fund AI Data Centers, Expects $100K Loss

Quantum Solutions, a Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed company, is selling off part of its Ethereum stash to bankroll AI data center operations. On July 30, its subsidiary GPT Pals Studio unloaded 1,000 ETH at $1,903 per token, bringing in $1.9 million. The sale is expected to result in an accounting loss of roughly JPY 17 million ($100,970) because the sale price fell below the carrying value.

The sale and its terms

The July 30 sale came the same day the board raised the authorized sale cap from 1,875 ETH to 4,375 ETH. That's a big jump — it more than doubles the amount the subsidiary is allowed to sell. Before this month, GPT Pals Studio had already sold 904 ETH on June 16, leaving 971 ETH available under the original policy. After the latest sale, the firm holds 4,764.80 ETH, of which 3,050 ETH are pledged as collateral to a Singapore-based lender.

A broader pivot from crypto to AI

Quantum Solutions isn't alone in this shift. A growing number of public companies that once focused on crypto mining are now chasing AI and high-performance computing. Bitcoin miners IREN, TeraWulf, and Core Scientific have all made similar moves. The numbers tell the story: public Bitcoin miners offloaded 32,000 BTC in Q1 2026 alone — that's more than they sold in all of 2025. Squeezed margins and the AI infrastructure boom are driving the change.

What's left in the treasury

After the July sale, Quantum Solutions still holds a sizable Ethereum position — 4,764.80 ETH. But a big chunk of that, 3,050 ETH, is locked up as collateral with a Singapore-based lender. That means the firm's flexibility to sell more is limited unless it repays the loan or the lender releases the collateral. The company expects to recognize the loss on sale in Q2 of its fiscal year ending February 2027.

The increased sale cap suggests more sales could be coming. With the board's new authorization, GPT Pals Studio can sell up to 4,375 ETH total. After the June and July sales, that leaves room for roughly 2,471 more ETH under the current cap. Whether Quantum Solutions will move that quickly — or wait for better prices — is the open question.
