QuickSwap Tops $700M Lifetime Volume on Base

QuickSwap has crossed $700 million in lifetime trading volume on Base, the layer 2 network built by Coinbase. The decentralized exchange announced the milestone this week, marking a sharp rise in activity since it expanded to the chain.

The numbers put QuickSwap among the more active DEXs on Base, a network that has drawn a wave of traders looking for cheaper transactions than Ethereum's mainnet. The growth has been fast enough that the exchange is now treating Base as a core part of its operations, not a side experiment.

Why Base, and why now

Base launched as an Ethereum layer 2, meaning it settles transactions on Ethereum but processes them off the main chain before bundling them back. That design cuts fees and speeds up trades, two things that have historically kept smaller traders away from decentralized exchanges on Ethereum itself.

For QuickSwap, which started on Polygon, the move to Base was a bet that liquidity would follow lower costs. The $700 million figure suggests that bet is paying off. It also reflects a broader pattern: layer 2 networks are giving DEXs a second wind, letting them compete for volume that once belonged to centralized platforms.

The exchange hasn't broken out how much of that volume came in the past month versus the past year. But the word from the project is that growth on Base has been rapid, and the milestone arrived sooner than internal expectations.

What layer 2s are doing to DEX volumes

Decentralized exchanges have always faced a trade-off: stay on Ethereum, where liquidity is deep but gas fees can eat into small trades, or move to a cheaper chain and risk thinner order books. Layer 2s like Base are trying to collapse that trade-off.

Base has an advantage in distribution. It's incubated by Coinbase, which gives it a direct line to millions of retail users who already hold crypto on the exchange. That pipeline has helped Base attract projects across DeFi, not just QuickSwap.

QuickSwap's $700 million is a small slice of total DEX volume across all chains, but it's a meaningful signal for Base. It shows the network can support a major DEX without the incentives that often prop up early activity. If that holds, it makes Base a more credible home for trading apps that want to stay long-term.

The competitive picture

QuickSwap isn't alone on Base. Other DEXs have been building there too, and the competition for liquidity is real. But QuickSwap's head start and its existing user base from Polygon give it an edge that newer entrants don't have.

The milestone also puts pressure on QuickSwap to keep improving. Seven hundred million in lifetime volume is a threshold, not a destination. To keep growing, the exchange will need to hold onto traders as Base matures and as other layer 2s court the same users.

For now, the project is framing the number as proof that its multi-chain strategy is working. QuickSwap has already expanded beyond Polygon, and Base is now its fastest-growing market.

What to watch next

The next data point will be whether QuickSwap can turn $700 million into a sustained run rate. That means watching monthly volume, not just lifetime totals. If the exchange can keep a meaningful share of Base's DEX activity, it will have a case for deeper integration with the network's ecosystem.

Base, meanwhile, continues to add projects and users. The chain's growth will determine how much room there is for QuickSwap to grow alongside it. There's no announced date for the next milestone, but the project has made clear it intends to keep building on Base.

For traders, the practical question is whether QuickSwap's liquidity on Base is deep enough for the sizes they want to trade. That's a number the exchange hasn't published, and it's the one that will matter most in the coming months.
