Ripio Launches wFIAT Stablecoins on Celo, Offers No-Cost Ramps for Latin America

Ripio, the Argentine crypto firm, has launched wFIAT stablecoins on the Celo blockchain. The move expands the company's Latin American stablecoin portfolio and includes no-cost on- and off-ramps. Ripio says the integration is aimed at enabling real-world use cases for stablecoins in the region.

wFIAT stablecoins on Celo

The wFIAT tokens are fiat-backed stablecoins now live on Celo. Ripio already offers similar products on other networks, but this is its first deployment on Celo. The stablecoins are designed to maintain a 1:1 peg to their underlying fiat currencies, though the company hasn't specified which currencies are included in this initial launch.

No-cost on- and off-ramps

A key feature of the integration is the zero-fee on- and off-ramps. Users can move between fiat and wFIAT without paying the typical conversion costs. That's a big deal in Latin America, where remittance fees and banking friction are often high. Ripio is betting that removing those costs will drive adoption.

Real-world use cases

Ripio says the wFIAT stablecoins on Celo are meant for everyday transactions — payments, remittances, savings. The company has been building out its stablecoin infrastructure across Latin America for years. This latest addition gives users another blockchain option, and the no-cost ramps lower the barrier for people who just want to send money or store value without worrying about volatility.

The launch went live this week. No further details on future expansions or additional currencies have been announced.
