Ripple Awards $250,000 in RLUSD to Veteran-Owned Businesses Through New Grant Program

Ripple's philanthropic arm has handed out $250,000 in RLUSD stablecoin to 25 veteran-owned businesses. The grants, each worth $10,000, were announced July 13 through a program run with Hire Heroes USA called the 'Ripple Effect: Certified Veteran Employer Grants Program.'

How the grant program works

To qualify, a business must be at least 51% owned by a US military veteran or military spouse, operate domestically, and plan to hire from the military community within 12 to 18 months. Recipients also get employer training and access to Hire Heroes USA's pool of military-connected candidates. The money comes from Ripple's philanthropic arm, not its corporate treasury.

Ripple's broader philanthropic push

This isn't Ripple's first stab at stablecoin giving. The company previously committed $25 million, mostly in RLUSD, to education nonprofits. The new veteran-focused program adds a workforce development angle to that effort. But independent data on the employment impact of these donations isn't available yet.

No employment data yet

Hire Heroes USA plans to track the hiring commitments of the awarded businesses over the coming months. That means the real test — whether these grants actually lead to jobs — won't be known for a while. For now, the program exists on paper and in the wallets of 25 small business owners.

Grants announced amid escalating US-Iran conflict

The grant announcement landed just as the US reimposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports on July 14, after Iran attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade was first enforced from April to June, then lifted under an interim peace deal that has now unraveled. US forces launched a fourth consecutive night of strikes, and President Trump threatened to hit bridges and power plants unless Iran returns to negotiations. Trump held a Situation Room meeting on a new offensive with his war cabinet — Vance, Rubio, Hegseth, Caine, Ratcliffe, and Witkoff. More than 20 US Navy warships and hundreds of aircraft operate across the region, according to Central Command. The timing of the grant announcement against that backdrop is coincidental, but it underscores how quickly the news cycle can shift from philanthropy to conflict.

Hire Heroes USA will track the hiring commitments of the awarded businesses over the coming months. That data will determine whether the program delivers on its promise.
