SharpLink Gaming to Stake $200M in Ethereum via Lido, Anchorage Digital Holds Custody

SharpLink Gaming is putting $200 million worth of Ethereum to work. The company plans to allocate the ETH to Lido for staking, converting it into wrapped staked ETH (wstETH) and tapping Anchorage Digital for institutional custody. The move is part of a broader push to make its crypto holdings generate yield instead of sitting idle.

Why wstETH

WstETH is the wrapped version of staked ETH on Lido. It lets holders earn staking rewards while still using the token in DeFi protocols — lending, borrowing, providing liquidity. That composability is the draw. SharpLink's CEO, Joseph Chalom, said the allocation expands the company's strategy and that wstETH offers flexibility while keeping institutional risk standards intact.

The structure matters here. Anchorage Digital holds the wstETH, which gives SharpLink a regulated custodian in the mix. That's a deliberate choice for a public company moving a nine-figure sum into a staking product.

Custody and risk

Anchorage Digital isn't new to this. The firm has positioned itself as a bridge between traditional finance and crypto, offering custody for institutional clients. For SharpLink, the arrangement keeps the assets under a qualified custodian while the staking rewards accrue.

The timing is notable. Staking has become a standard play for companies holding ETH, but the scale — $200 million — puts SharpLink in a smaller group of public firms doing it at size.

What the chart says

On the technical side, LDO/USD's 4-hour chart looks bearish, but the RSI sits at 57, which suggests some bullish momentum underneath. A push toward the $0.3370 resistance is possible, with a reclaim of the $0.4063 swing high on the table if buyers step in. Downside risk sits at $0.2716.

That's the trading view, not the company's thesis. SharpLink's bet is on the staking yield, not the token's short-term price action.

The allocation is set to go through Lido's staking pipeline, with the wstETH held by Anchorage. Whether the market rewards the LDO price or not, the staking rewards start accruing once the ETH is in.
