Shiba Inu Goes Live on Solana Through Sunrise, With Wormhole Handling the Bridge

Shiba Inu is live on Solana. The listing went out through Sunrise, a token gateway built by Wormhole Labs, and it uses Wormhole's Native Token Transfers standard — meaning SHIB on Solana is treated as the canonical token rather than a wrapped copy. Solana announced it on X on October 4; the SHIB team acknowledged it a day later with a playful post.

SHIB is up nearly 4% over the past 24 hours, with most of that move coming after the announcement. Over the past week it's up 2.69%, but it still sits about 93% below its October 2021 all-time high. That gap is the whole story here — this is a listing that matters for where liquidity sits, not for reversing a five-year drawdown.

What Sunrise actually does

Sunrise is an on-ramp for tokens from other chains. Monad's MON was its first listing. The pitch is straightforward: instead of issuing a wrapped derivative and hoping a bridge holds, the token arrives on Solana as the real thing, with Wormhole's NTT handling the transfer. For SHIB holders, that removes a layer of counterparty risk they'd normally take on with a bridged asset. Whether it removes enough to make people actually move size is a different question.

The fee math isn't subtle

SHIB still lives on Ethereum, and it isn't going anywhere. But Solana's base fee is 0.000005 SOL per transaction — a fraction of a cent. Ethereum fees move with network demand and can spike during busy periods. That spread is the practical argument for putting a memecoin on Solana, and it's the same argument that's pulled plenty of other tokens over. The catch is that cheap transactions only help if there's somewhere to trade them. Sunrise gets SHIB there; it doesn't create the market.

Solana's dog-coin slot is open

Solana has been home to Bonk for years, but that market has cooled hard. BONK slid to its lowest level since November 2023 in August after Upbit announced a delisting. The dog-coin niche on Solana hasn't had a strong incumbent since. SHIB is the obvious name to fill it, and the timing — a month and a half after BONK's delisting news — is not accidental.

Check the contract before you trade

Unofficial tokens using the SHIB name already exist on Solana. Solana urged users to verify the official contract address on tokens.xyz before trading. That warning is worth taking literally. Fake SHIB copies on Solana predate this listing, and a new native token launch is exactly when they get dusted off and pushed to people who don't check. If you're buying, pull the address from tokens.xyz, not from a reply or a DM.

The next thing to watch is whether Sunrise follows with more Solana listings from Wormhole's pipeline, and whether SHIB's Solana volume builds into something durable or just a first-week bump. The contract address is live now. Everything else is a wait-and-see.
