Pi Network's PI token dropped below the $0.09 support level on Tuesday, pushing its market cap under $950 million and making it the 67th largest cryptocurrency on CoinGecko. The decline comes as the network's Core Team reminded Mainnet Nodes to upgrade to version 26 by today or risk being disconnected.
PI's price slide
PI hit an all-time low of $0.07 in mid-July, then climbed above $0.09 by August 6 and surged past $0.096. But the rally stalled. The token was rejected and dipped below $0.09 last Friday, though bulls reclaimed the line over the weekend. On Sunday morning, PI peaked at $0.094, then got stopped at $0.092 and pushed below $0.09 again, dropping to $0.084 before recovering to $0.086.
Node upgrade deadline
The Core Team has told Mainnet Nodes to upgrade to version 26 by today or risk being disconnected from the network. Version 26 is the second-to-last protocol upgrade, and the final step before version 27. The network has completed eight successful migrations since the start of the year.
Quiet rollout possible
Some upgrades have come without official announcement, so version 26 could be deployed without a big statement. But as of press time, there's no chatter about it on social media. That silence is notable, given the deadline is today.
The path to version 27
Version 27 is the final upgrade, but there's no timeline for it yet. Whether the network will push out version 26 without a formal announcement remains an open question. For now, node operators have until the end of today to get on board.
