Strategy Adds Bitcoin 200-Week Moving Average to Dashboard as Price Hits Key Level

Strategy, the software company formerly known as MicroStrategy, has added a new metric to its Bitcoin dashboard: the 200-week moving average. Michael Saylor announced the update this week, noting that Bitcoin's price is currently sitting almost exactly on that line. Historically, the cryptocurrency has traded above its 200-week moving average 92% of the time, making the current level a rare and closely watched threshold.

What the new metric shows

The dashboard now includes a field labeled “Premium to 200-Week Moving Average.” It displays the percentage difference between Bitcoin's spot price and that long-term average. Saylor didn't provide a specific number, but the implication is clear: when the premium is near zero, Bitcoin is at a historically cheap entry point relative to its own trend. The metric joins other indicators Strategy already tracks, like the Mayer Multiple and realized price.

Why the 200-week MA matters

The 200-week moving average has long been a favorite of on-chain analysts and long-term holders. It smooths out short-term volatility and acts as a floor during bear markets. Bitcoin has only dipped below it a handful of times — most notably during the 2014-2015 bear market, the COVID crash in March 2020, and the 2022 downturn. Each time, the asset eventually recovered and traded above it for years. Saylor, a vocal Bitcoin bull, has referenced the metric before in interviews, but this is the first time Strategy has baked it into its official tracking tools.

Where Bitcoin stands now

Bitcoin's price is hovering right on the 200-week line as of August 3, 2026. That's unusual. The last time it touched this level was during the 2022 selloff, and before that, the March 2020 panic. For a company that holds over 200,000 Bitcoin on its balance sheet, the proximity to this line is a signal Saylor likely wants his shareholders to see. It suggests that, by historical standards, the current price is near the bottom of the long-term range — though past performance doesn't guarantee future results.

The timing isn't accidental. Strategy has been adding to its Bitcoin holdings throughout 2026, and the dashboard update gives investors a clear benchmark to watch. If Bitcoin holds above the 200-week MA, the premium metric will turn positive again. If it breaks below, that would be a rare event — one that has historically preceded sharp recoveries, but also one that could test the conviction of even the most dedicated hodlers.
