Strive spent $81.5 million to buy 1,110 bitcoin this week, paying an average of $73,409 per coin. The purchase pushes the treasury company's total holdings to 21,356 BTC, up from 15,009 BTC it held on May 12.
The buy, piece by piece
Strive didn't load up all at once. It split the acquisition into tranches. The first 147 BTC went for roughly $64,800 between Aug. 3 and Aug. 7. A week later, another 79 BTC changed hands at about $63,231. The rest of the coins were accumulated as bitcoin climbed toward $80,000, so the final average landed at $73,409.
Stacking since spring
The company has been on a steady accumulation path. Its May 12 balance of 15,009 BTC shows it has added more than 6,000 bitcoin over the past few months, with the latest 1,110 BTC being the most recent slice. The exact details of earlier buys beyond the one announced this week haven't been disclosed.
Strategy sits still
Across the market, Strategy, the world's largest corporate bitcoin holder, hasn't made a purchase in almost two months. It's sitting on a USD reserve above $6.5 billion. That's a sharp contrast to Strive's active stacking, and it leaves observers watching whether the bigger player will jump back in.
No date has been given for Strategy's next move. Its reserve gives it plenty of room to act whenever it chooses.
