Sui Network Hit by Three Outages This Week, Foundation Deploys Major Bug Fix

Sui Network suffered three separate outages this week, each tied to software bugs. The Sui Foundation said it has now deployed a major upgrade that fixes the root cause across the chain.

Three outages in a week

The first two outages were caused by bugs introduced in the network's 1.72 update. Validators went offline, halting block production. The team rushed out an interim fix to restore the blockchain, but that patch itself contained a bug — triggering a third outage.

Blame game: the 1.72 update

All three failures stem from the same release cycle. The foundation hasn't disclosed exact user impact, but the chain was inaccessible for several hours in total. Sui isn't new to hiccups — it has seen brief interruptions before — but three in one week is a new record.

The major upgrade

After the third outage, the foundation pushed what it called a 'major upgrade' to address the underlying issues. The network has been running normally since the fix was applied. No further incidents have been reported as of press time.

The episode is a reminder that even Layer 1 blockchains running advanced Move-based architecture aren't immune to the oldest problem in software: a bad deploy.
