Sui (SUI) climbed 3.37% to $1.01 as of October 19, 2026, a session gain that puts the token back above the dollar mark. But the bounce is running into a familiar barrier. SUI is still pinned below its short-term moving averages, and a descending resistance structure sits directly overhead.
A bounce with a ceiling
The move higher is real, but it isn't a breakout. The token is trading beneath the short-term moving averages that have defined its recent range, which means the trend still favors sellers. Every push toward those levels has been met with supply.
The descending resistance structure is the more stubborn problem. It's a series of lower highs that has capped prior recovery attempts, and it's still in place. Until SUI clears that line, the 3.37% gain reads as a countertrend bounce inside a larger down move, not a reversal.
Why $1.01 isn't the story
Round numbers draw attention, and reclaiming $1.01 sounds like progress. The mechanics say otherwise. The price is above the figure, but it's below the averages that matter for momentum. That gap between the headline number and the technical picture is where the risk sits.
For the bounce to have legs, SUI needs to hold above $1.01 and push through the short-term averages. The descending resistance is the next test after that. Fail either one, and the recovery stalls the way it has before.
What the resistance structure is doing
A descending resistance structure forms when each rally tops out below the previous high. It's a visible record of sellers stepping in earlier each time. For SUI, that structure has been in the way of every recovery attempt, and it's still in the way now.
The token can trade sideways under that line for a while. What it can't do is break out without clearing it. That's the line the market is watching heading into the next sessions.
The levels that matter from here
Two things need to happen for the bounce to turn into something more durable. First, SUI has to reclaim its short-term moving averages. Second, it has to break through the descending resistance. Neither has happened yet.
Until then, the 3.37% gain is a move inside a range, not a change in trend. The $1.01 level is the floor to watch. The moving averages and the descending resistance are the ceilings.
The next few sessions will show whether buyers can build on the gain or whether the resistance structure does what it's done before. SUI's ability to hold $1.01 is the first test. The short-term moving averages are the second.
