Tempo, the blockchain built by Stripe, has integrated BlackRock's USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL). The move gives eligible users on Tempo access to the world's largest tokenized money market fund — a sign that the battle for institutional crypto finance is moving beyond stablecoins.
BUIDL lands on Tempo
BlackRock's BUIDL fund is a tokenized Treasury product that invests in U.S. government securities and repurchase agreements. It launched in 2024 and quickly became the biggest fund of its kind, with over $500 million in assets under management. Now Tempo users who meet eligibility criteria can hold and transact BUIDL tokens directly on the network.
The integration was announced this week. Tempo is the latest blockchain to add BUIDL, following Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche. Stripe has been pushing Tempo as a payments-focused chain, and adding a BlackRock product gives it a foothold in the institutional lending and collateral market.
Tokenized Treasuries gain ground
The shift is clear: stablecoins were the first on-chain representation of fiat, but tokenized Treasury products are the next wave. They offer yield — currently around 5% — without the volatility of crypto. For institutions, that's a big draw.
Several blockchains are now competing to host these products. Tempo's integration means it can offer a yield-bearing asset that's backed by U.S. Treasuries, not just a stablecoin pegged to the dollar. That could make it more attractive for corporate treasuries and fintech apps building on Stripe's infrastructure.
Eligibility and access
Not everyone can buy BUIDL. The fund is only available to accredited investors and qualified purchasers under U.S. securities laws. Tempo users will need to go through a know-your-customer process to access it. The fund's minimum investment is $5 million, though tokenization allows for smaller fractional holdings on secondary markets.
Stripe hasn't said how many users are eligible, but the company's merchant network includes thousands of businesses that could potentially qualify.
Stripe's blockchain play
Tempo launched in 2025 as Stripe's answer to the need for a fast, low-cost blockchain for payments. It's built on the Cosmos SDK and uses a proof-of-stake consensus. The BUIDL integration is the first major institutional asset to go live on the network.
Stripe has been cautious about crypto since its early Bitcoin payment experiments. But with Tempo, the company is betting that tokenized real-world assets — not just crypto-native tokens — will drive adoption. BUIDL is a test case.
Tempo joins a growing list of blockchains offering tokenized Treasury products. The trend is accelerating, and more integrations are expected in the coming months.
