THORWallet Adds Native Monero Support, Cross-Chain Swaps Still in Testing

THORWallet has integrated Monero, adding native XMR support to its app. Users can send and receive XMR, spin up multiple Monero accounts from a single wallet seed, and point the app at their own node if they don't want to use the default. The cross-chain part — swapping XMR for BTC, ETH, stablecoins, SOL or ZEC without a centralized exchange — isn't live yet. Monero support on THORChain is still being tested and audited.

What actually works right now

The integration covers the basics: sending, receiving, and managing XMR. Multiple Monero accounts can be derived from the same wallet seed, which is useful if you want separate addresses without juggling separate recovery phrases.

THORWallet also lets users configure their own Monero node. If they don't, the app falls back to a default one. For people who care about which server sees their traffic, that's the difference between trusting THORWallet's infrastructure and running the validation themselves.

The wallet uses a lightweight implementation. Keys, balances, and transaction history are computed and stored on the user's device, and according to THORWallet they never leave it. That's a notable design choice for a wallet that also wants to be a DeFi hub — it keeps the sensitive parts local rather than parked on a server.

The swap feature is still in the shop

The part most Monero users have been waiting for — native cross-chain swaps — isn't ready. Monero support on THORChain itself is under test and audit. Once that clears, THORWallet says users will be able to swap XMR directly in the app against Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, SOL, and ZEC, with no centralized exchange and no custodial intermediary in the middle.

That's a meaningful distinction. Monero is one of the few major assets that's been largely locked out of regulated venues. A non-custodial swap route would give holders a way to move in and out of XMR without handing it to a platform that might delist it or freeze withdrawals. The catch is that the route depends on THORChain's Monero support passing its audit, which hasn't happened yet.

Where this fits in THORWallet's plan

The company has been positioning the app as a one-stop shop for DeFi, and Monero support slots into that. Add a private asset, keep the keys local, avoid a middleman. Whether that pitch holds together depends on the audit timeline, which THORWallet hasn't dated.

For now, the Monero integration is a wallet feature, not a swap feature. Users can hold and move XMR. They can't yet trade it cross-chain inside the app. That gap is the one to watch.
