Travala Launches Agentic AI Travel Protocol with Gasless USDC Payments on Base

Travala, the crypto-friendly travel booking platform, this week unveiled an agentic AI travel protocol that enables gasless USDC payments on the Base blockchain. The move eliminates the need for users to hold ETH or other native tokens to cover transaction fees when booking hotels and flights.

How the protocol works

The protocol uses autonomous AI agents to handle booking logic and settle payments in USDC on Base — without deducting gas from the user's wallet. Travala covers the network cost behind the scenes, so the transaction looks fee-free to the customer. The integration is live now for all Base-supported wallets.

Why Base

Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2, offers low transaction fees and fast finality. By building on Base, Travala sidesteps the variable fee structure of Ethereum mainnet. For users, that means no more guessing how much ETH to keep on hand just to book a room.

What this means for crypto travel

Travala has long accepted a dozen-plus cryptocurrencies, but gas fees have been a persistent pain point — especially for smaller bookings where the fee eats into the value. This latest protocol abstracts that friction entirely. It's not the first attempt to make crypto travel feel like using a credit card, but it's one of the few to bake gasless logic directly into an AI-driven booking engine.

Live now

The protocol is deployed and operational. Travala hasn't disclosed plans for additional chains, but the architecture is designed to be chain-agnostic. For now, travelers with USDC on Base can book without a second thought about network costs.
