Trump Media Drops Truth Social Prediction-Market Plans, Pivots to Crypto.com Marketing Deal

Trump Media has abandoned its plan to embed a native prediction-market engine inside Truth Social, opting instead for a marketing arrangement that steers users to Crypto.com's existing event-contract platform, OG.com. The company also terminated a separate plan to become a large holder of Crypto.com's CRO token. The retreat comes as Bitcoin has fallen sharply from its 2025 peak and regulators are fighting over who gets to oversee event contracts.

A marketing deal instead of a built-in engine

The original announcement, made on October 28, 2025, promised Truth Social would become the first social media platform to offer embedded prediction markets through an exclusive arrangement with Crypto.com | Derivatives North America (CDNA), a CFTC-registered exchange and clearinghouse. That plan covered contracts on elections, interest and inflation rate changes, commodity prices, and sports leagues, with real-time pricing and a mechanism to convert Truth Social's 'Truth gems' into CRO to fund trades.

But the latest Trump Media filing describes Truth Predict as still 'in development,' with the initial rollout limited to a marketing and promotion collaboration that points users to OG.com, the Crypto.com-owned prediction markets app launched in February 2026. Trump Media reduces its direct operating role while still capturing distribution value as a marketing partner routing traffic to Crypto.com's infrastructure.

Why the CRO treasury died

Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp mutually terminated plans for Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, a digital-asset treasury vehicle intended to become the first and largest publicly traded holder of Crypto.com's CRO token. The companies cited shifting market conditions and stakeholder priorities for terminating the deal. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said the goal is to narrow the company's focus.

Bitcoin has fallen nearly half from its 2025 peak, cooling enthusiasm for token-hoarding stock vehicles. McGurn also said the prediction-market space is already crowded with established operators, making it less attractive for Trump Media to build back-end infrastructure than to act as a data and distribution partner.

The regulatory fight over event contracts

The retreat allows Trump Media to step back from a regulatory dispute. The CFTC sued Arizona, Connecticut, and Illinois in April 2026 to reaffirm exclusive jurisdiction over event contracts, while states like Nevada, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts have pursued prediction-market operators in court or through enforcement actions. By not building its own engine, Trump Media avoids becoming a direct target in that fight.

What Trump Media keeps

Devin Nunes, then CEO, had framed the original product as a way to democratize markets historically controlled by financial elites. Crypto.com co-founder Kris Marszalek described prediction markets as a multi-decabillion-dollar opportunity. Now Trump Media's role is narrower: it still gets distribution value from sending Truth Social users to OG.com, but it doesn't have to build or operate the infrastructure. The filing says Truth Predict remains 'in development,' so the marketing deal may be a first step rather than the final shape of the partnership.
