President Donald Trump joked about seeking a fourth term at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner this week, pulling out a 'Trump 2028' hat. The 22nd Amendment bars anyone from being elected president more than twice. But the real action this week was on-chain: wallets tied to the Official Trump memecoin project moved another big batch of tokens.
Token movements resume
Blockchain tracker Lookonchain reported that wallets associated with the project's team transferred 10.84 million TRUMP tokens — worth roughly $16.91 million — likely to exchanges via BitGo. It's the third such batch in five months. Over that period, project-linked wallets have moved 48.25 million TRUMP tokens worth about $172.4 million.
The timing isn't great for holders. The token's price has fallen more than 66% from its peak, trading around $1.55, down about 3% over the previous 24 hours. Polymarket traders give only a 4% probability to a contract asking whether presidential term limits would be repealed or altered this year.
The financial picture
A Reuters investigation estimated the meme coin generated more than $1.2 billion in total revenue. The Trump family received roughly $616 million from the venture, according to that report. Investors who bought TRUMP have accumulated more than $700 million in losses, while some early traders and larger holders made substantial profits.
The project has disclosed plans to selectively deploy, sell, distribute, or monetize portions of unlocked inventory to fund partnerships, acquisitions, token dispositions, and other initiatives. It also has a multi-year unlock schedule and VIP rewards for top holders.
The token movements aren't directly connected to Trump's joke, but their proximity puts renewed attention on the cryptocurrency. The next unlock tranche is scheduled under the project's disclosed timeline — no date has been announced for the next batch.
