Uniswap and PancakeSwap are the two names that dominate the market for tokenized commodities on decentralized exchanges. The latest data shows they account for 96% of the $678 million in total DEX volume, leaving every other platform to split the rest.
The size of the gap
Do the math and the numbers are stark. Roughly $651 million of the $678 million in tokenized commodity trades is flowing through Uniswap and PancakeSwap. The other $27 million is scattered across dozens of smaller exchanges. That's not a close race.
Tokenized commodities are digital tokens that track the price of physical assets like gold, oil, or wheat. They live on blockchains and trade on DEXs, which let buyers and sellers interact directly through smart contracts. The volume shows that traders are putting real money into these tokens.
Why those two platforms lead
Uniswap is the biggest automated market maker on Ethereum, and PancakeSwap plays the same role on BNB Smart Chain. Both networks host a large number of tokenized commodity projects, so the trading volume naturally lands on the venues that already have the most liquidity and the most active user base.
That liquidity feeds itself. More traders bring deeper order books, which makes the exchange more attractive for the next trader. Smaller DEXs don't have that pull, so the gap doesn't shrink.
The 4% left for everyone else
What's left is a tail of small platforms fighting over a tiny piece of the market. No single alternative has shown it can chip away at the duopoly. The concentration is extreme, and it's not an accident of the current moment. It's a pattern that's held for a while.
The obvious risk is that if either Uniswap or PancakeSwap suffers a serious technical failure or regulatory crackdown, the entire tokenized commodity market would feel the jolt. But the data doesn't tell us when or if that could happen.
What the data does tell us is that tokenized commodity trading is not a broad ecosystem. It's a two-player game, and the rest are on the sidelines.
The unresolved question is whether the two leaders can keep their grip as the tokenized commodity sector grows. New DEXs launch all the time, but none has yet to move the needle. The next volume report will show if that changed.
