Upbit's weekly trading volume dropped 15.5% to 8.35 trillion won, the exchange's latest figures show, a pullback that points to thinning liquidity and a shift in where traders are putting their money. XRP still topped the activity charts on the platform for the week, even as overall turnover shrank.
Where the volume went
The decline wasn't spread evenly across the board. XRP held its place as the most traded asset on Upbit, a sign that traders are consolidating around a narrower set of tokens rather than rotating broadly through the market. When volume falls but one asset keeps its lead, it usually means fewer participants are active and those who remain are clustering in the names they know best.
The 8.35 trillion won weekly total is the headline number, and it's a meaningful step down from the prior week. For an exchange of Upbit's size, a double-digit percentage drop in a single week is the kind of move that gets noticed by market makers and by projects that depend on Korean retail flow for price discovery.
Liquidity gets thinner
Thinner volume on a major venue has a way of compounding. Wider spreads, more slippage on larger orders, and less reliable price signals are the usual downstream effects. None of that shows up in a single weekly figure, but it's the reason exchange watchers track these numbers week to week rather than month to month.
The drop also raises a question about how much of the previous week's activity was sustainable. A 15.5% slide in seven days is large enough that it's worth watching whether the next reporting period stabilizes or continues lower. Upbit hasn't attached a reason to the change, and the weekly data alone doesn't say whether the cause was a broader market lull, a specific event, or simple mean reversion after a busier stretch.
XRP's outsize share
XRP's continued lead is the other half of the story. On a week when total volume fell, the token still drew the most trading interest on the exchange. That dynamic — a falling tide with one boat still floating highest — can flatter an asset's relative position while masking weakness in the broader market.
For traders, the practical takeaway is that Upbit's order books are likely shallower than they were a week ago. For projects listed on the exchange, it's a reminder that Korean retail attention is concentrated and can thin out quickly. The next weekly update will show whether the 15.5% decline was a one-off or the start of a longer slide.
