Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin this week laid out three privacy-focused upgrades for the network — Account Abstraction with FOCIL, Keyed Nonces, and Access Layer work. The proposals target transaction censorship and metadata leaks, and arrive as the Ethereum Foundation navigates internal departures and institutional investors at Consensus Hong Kong flag privacy as a prerequisite for enterprise adoption.
What the upgrades do
FOCIL — fork-choice enforced inclusion lists — forces block builders to include validator-nominated transactions, making it much harder to censor specific transfers. Account abstraction replaces today's single-key wallets with programmable account logic, which cuts down on metadata trails. The third piece, Access Layer work, is less detailed but aims to further shield user activity on-chain.
Why privacy is back on the agenda
The Ethereum Foundation has seen several high-profile exits tied to a shift in organizational mandate. That internal churn isn't the only pressure. At Consensus Hong Kong this month, institutional voices made clear that full enterprise adoption won't happen without stronger privacy guarantees. Buterin's upgrades respond directly to that demand.
Ethereum price holds key support
ETH is trading at $2,100, consolidating in a narrow range. Support sits at $2,080–$2,100, while resistance is $2,150–$2,200. A break below $2,050 could trigger further de-risking, according to the market data. So far, the price is holding steady despite the uncertainty around the Foundation's internal changes.
LiquidChain raises nearly $800K in presale
Separately, LiquidChain ($LIQUID) — a Layer 3 cross-chain liquidity infrastructure project — is in presale at $0.01461 per token and has raised almost $800K. The project aims to unify liquidity from Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana into a single execution environment. It's a different approach to the liquidity fragmentation problem, but it's early.
Buterin's privacy proposals are expected to land on the agenda for upcoming Ethereum core developer calls. The LiquidChain presale remains open, with the next milestone likely once the $1M mark is hit.
