WEEX has been named Most Secure Crypto Exchange at the CoinGape Web3 Innovation Awards 2026. The award, handed out this week, singled out the exchange's combination of a fully backed 1,000 BTC Protection Fund with publicly verifiable Proof of Reserves — a setup the organizers said is distinct from what most platforms offer.
Why the award mattered
The CoinGape award specifically called out WEEX for running both a Protection Fund and Proof of Reserves side by side. The 1,000 BTC fund is segregated from operational cash and its on-chain wallet addresses are public, so anyone can check the balance. On top of that, WEEX publishes reserve ratios updated regularly — USDT at roughly 102%, ETH at 115%, and BTC at 122%. That transparency, combined with the fund, appears to have tipped the scales with the judges.
Where user assets sit
More than 95% of client assets are held in multi-signature cold storage. Account-level protections include two-factor authentication, withdrawal-specific passwords, email and SMS verification, and wallet whitelisting. The exchange says the structure is designed so that even if hot wallets were hit, the bulk of funds stay offline and inaccessible to attackers.
From 2018 to 6.2 million users
WEEX was founded in 2018 and now serves over 6.2 million users across more than 150 countries. The platform lists more than 1,200 spot trading pairs and offers up to 400x leverage on crypto futures. That kind of leverage is aggressive — a fact that makes the security award somewhat notable given the risk profile of high-leverage trading.
Next move: AI trading tools
WEEX is also pushing into AI news aggregation, AI-driven trading tools, and a trade-to-earn model. The expansion suggests the exchange is trying to layer automated features on top of its existing security infrastructure. How those new tools affect user risk — or the security posture — remains an open question. But for now, the award gives WEEX a clear marketing hook: most secure, at least by one industry measure.
