Cameron Winklevoss says the AI trade has handed investors a way to buy Bitcoin at last year's prices. In a post on X, the Gemini co-founder argued that capital flooding into AI stocks has suppressed crypto, letting buyers step in at levels not seen in a year. He put a number on it: $65,000.
The $65,000 pitch
Winklevoss wrote that "the AI trade has given the world a time machine to go back in time and invest in Bitcoin at $65k." He also noted that a year ago, if Bitcoin was offered at a 50% discount to its then-current price of $120,000, there would be unlimited buyers. That's the logic: the AI trade is effectively offering that discount now.
Where Bitcoin actually trades
According to BeInCrypto price data, Bitcoin peaked at $126,080 on October 6, 2025. It currently trades at $64,231, roughly 49% below that record. The market value sits near $1.29 trillion. Bitcoin broke down sharply in February 2026 and has traded below $80,000 since.
Winklevoss's own moves
This isn't the first time Winklevoss has talked up the discount. In July, he backed Bitcoin and Zcash as the AI rout dragged South Korea's Kospi index down almost 11%. In March, the Winklevoss twins moved $130 million in BTC to Gemini wallets, which analysts read as preparation to sell. Gemini itself cut roughly 30% of its workforce earlier this year and posted a $585 million loss for 2025.
What the cycle math says
A BeInCrypto study of cycle timing placed the bear market bottom near $47,000. Last week, spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $390 million in outflows as oil prices climbed. On Monday, the S&P 500 slipped while BTC pushed above $64,000 ahead of the Federal Reserve minutes.
The Fed minutes are due this week. If the time machine holds, Bitcoin's next move will depend on whether the AI trade keeps sucking up capital — or finally lets some of it flow back into crypto.
