World Chain will activate streamed EIP-7928 block access lists on its mainnet starting August 17, the team announced this week. The upgrade lets validators verify transactions in parallel as blocks are still being assembled, boosting throughput without forcing operators to buy beefier machines. It's the first production layer-2 blockchain to deploy the feature, and it's built on the OP Stack.
How the tech works
On most networks, validators check blocks one after another — sequential verification. World Chain's approach streams full block access lists inside every flashblock, updating every 200 milliseconds. Instead of waiting for a completed block, validators can start verifying independent transactions simultaneously across multiple CPU cores. The idea is to spread validation work across the whole block-building process, cutting latency.
Internal benchmarks on test networks showed validation latency stayed flat even as throughput hit one gigagas per second using standard cloud infrastructure. The team says the technology targets that throughput level while keeping validator hardware requirements effectively unchanged.
Blockchain scaling often forces a trade-off: more transactions usually mean higher hardware costs or more centralization. World Chain's implementation sidesteps that by making verification parallel rather than serial. The upgrade contributes to Ethereum's broader scaling roadmap — EIP-7928 is part of the conversation around the planned Glamsterdam upgrade — but World Chain is deploying it through a runtime flag, not a hard fork. That means client operators can upgrade their software ahead of August 17 without a coordinated network-wide cutover.
What World Chain is
World Chain is a layer-2 secured by Ethereum and part of the Superchain ecosystem. It's integrated with the World protocol and World ID's proof-of-human technology. The network supports stablecoin payments, remittances, commerce, and other real-world use cases, and can be accessed through compatible wallets including World App.
The timing isn't accidental. As more applications push on-chain activity, networks that can't scale without centralizing risk losing users. World Chain's bet is that parallel verification — streamed in real time — can keep the chain open to independent validators while handling real-world transaction volumes.
The August 17 mainnet rollout is the next concrete milestone. Client operators have until then to upgrade their software. After that, the network will be the first production layer-2 running streamed EIP-7928 block access lists — and the industry will see whether the benchmarks hold up under live traffic.
