World Chain will activate streamed EIP-7928 block access lists on its mainnet on Aug. 17, a feature that lets validators verify transactions while blocks are still being assembled. The layer-2 network claims it's the first production blockchain to deploy the spec, which it says boosts throughput without asking validators to run beefier hardware.
Streaming every 200 milliseconds
The implementation extends the EIP-7928 specification by pushing access list data every 200 milliseconds through what World Chain calls its flashblock architecture. That constant stream is what allows parallel block verification — validators can check transactions as they arrive, rather than waiting for a full block to be built.
The goal is to hit throughput of up to one gigagas per second while keeping validator hardware requirements effectively unchanged. That's a direct answer to the usual scaling trade-off, where more speed means more expensive nodes.
No hard fork required
World Chain is rolling this out without a hard fork. Instead, the feature sits behind a runtime flag, so client operators can upgrade their software ahead of the Aug. 17 launch. No coordinated network-wide upgrade is needed, which simplifies the deployment and cuts the risk of a messy transition.
Testnet benchmarks
Internal benchmarking on World Chain test networks showed validation latency stayed stable even as throughput climbed, reaching the one-gigagas-per-second target on standard cloud infrastructure. The numbers suggest the approach holds up outside a lab, though the real test comes when mainnet traffic hits.
Built on the OP Stack
World Chain is built using the OP Stack, secured by Ethereum, and sits inside the Superchain ecosystem. It's integrated with the World protocol and supports applications like stablecoin payments, international remittances, and commerce. The network also uses World ID's proof-of-human technology and can be accessed through compatible wallets, including World App.
The Aug. 17 rollout is the next concrete step. Client operators need to have their software updated before then, and the network will be the first to run streamed EIP-7928 access lists in production.
