XRP and Bitcoin Sentiment Turns Bearish as XRP Posts 9% Weekly Drop

Social sentiment around XRP and Bitcoin has flipped bearish, according to the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, after a week in which XRP's price fell more than 9%. The drop has traders talking down both assets, and the negative commentary is now the dominant tone across social channels.

The contrast with Ether is stark. Santiment's data shows roughly twice as many bullish comments about ETH as bearish ones, even as Bitcoin and XRP holders sour. The firm links that split to a potentially more favorable recovery setup for the two laggards.

What the sentiment split actually shows

XRP took the harder hit on price, and the chatter followed. A weekly decline above 9% is enough to pull momentum traders out of a position and push long-term holders into complaint mode, which is exactly the kind of noise Santiment is picking up.

Bitcoin's mood soured alongside it. That's not unusual when the two trade in the same direction, but it does mean the bearishness isn't isolated to one coin's community. It's a broader shift in how retail is talking about the market's two best-known names.

Ether, meanwhile, is the odd one out. Bullish comments outnumber bearish ones by about two to one. Whatever ETH traders are seeing, it isn't what XRP and Bitcoin holders are seeing.

Why Santiment reads it as a setup

Santiment's read is that heavy bearish sentiment can be a contrarian signal. When retail crowds are loudly negative, the selling pressure that produced the price drop is often already spent. That doesn't guarantee a bounce, but it does mean the easy money on the short side has likely been made.

The firm frames the contrast as a potentially more favorable recovery setup for XRP and Bitcoin relative to assets where sentiment is still running hot. Ether's bullish tilt, by that logic, is the less interesting side of the trade — not because ETH is weak, but because crowded optimism leaves less room for a surprise move higher.

It's a familiar pattern in crypto: sentiment and price tend to overshoot together, and the crowd's mood is often a lagging indicator rather than a leading one. Santiment's point is that the gap between XRP and Bitcoin on one side and Ether on the other is wide enough to matter.

The week XRP holders would rather forget

The 9% weekly decline is the concrete number driving the shift. It's a meaningful move for a top-ten asset over seven days, and it came without any obvious catalyst in the data Santiment published.

That's part of why the sentiment reading is worth watching. Price drops with a clear cause — a hack, a delisting, a regulatory action — tend to produce targeted anger. Price drops without one tend to produce broad pessimism, which is closer to what the data shows here.

Bitcoin's decline wasn't broken out separately, but its sentiment turned negative in the same window. The two assets are being discussed in the same breath, and not kindly.

What to watch from here

The next test is whether the bearish commentary peaks and rolls over. If it does while price stabilizes, Santiment's contrarian case gets stronger. If sentiment stays negative and price keeps sliding, the crowd was right and the setup was early.

Ether's bullish skew is the other number to track. If ETH sentiment starts to cool while XRP and Bitcoin chatter improves, the gap Santiment flagged is closing — and the relative trade it implies is already underway. Until then, the mood on XRP and Bitcoin is the story, and it isn't a happy one.
