XRP Holds Top-10 Spot for 13 Consecutive Years, Outlasting Every Other Altcoin

XRP has now spent 13 consecutive years among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap, a feat no other altcoin has matched. The milestone, spanning from 2014 through 2026, puts XRP in a category of its own as Bitcoin's dominance has steadily eroded and new projects jostle for position.

A survivor's track record

XRP's run through the top 10 isn't just long — it's been tested. The token survived the 2018 bear market, the COVID-19 crash, the Terra collapse, the FTX bankruptcy, and Ripple's years-long legal battle with the SEC. After the SEC lawsuit, many exchanges delisted XRP, yet it still held its top-10 status. No other altcoin can claim that kind of resilience over more than a decade.

Bitcoin's shrinking share

While XRP held steady, Bitcoin's market share dropped from roughly 87% in 2014 to under 57% on CoinGecko today. Stablecoins and exchange tokens like BNB have become permanent fixtures in the top 10 and top 20, reshaping the rankings. The shift reflects a market that's matured beyond Bitcoin dominance, even if BTC remains the largest asset.

A new DeFi contender

Hyperliquid's HYPE recently overtook Dogecoin to become the second DeFi project ever to enter the top 10. That's a reminder that the rankings are still fluid — and that XRP's position isn't guaranteed forever. But for now, it remains the only altcoin with a 13-year unbroken streak in the top tier.

XRP's price sits 70% below its July 2023 all-time high of $3.65, a reminder that longevity doesn't guarantee returns. Whether it can hold its spot as new projects rise is the open question.
