The XRP Ledger added 489,739 new accounts in the first six months of 2026, lifting the total to roughly 8.4 million, according to network data. The jump is tied to Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, which has been deployed and minted on the ledger throughout the year. But the raw number doesn't mean that many new users are actively trading or holding XRP.
RLUSD drives the spike
RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin, has been a key driver of the account growth. Stablecoin activity requires accounts to hold and transfer the token, which pushes up the count of addresses on the ledger. That's a shift for a network historically built around XRP payments.
Not all accounts are users
The ledger's account count includes a lot of noise. Many of the new addresses could be low-balance wallets, test accounts, exchange addresses, or one-time users. A single exchange or custodian can generate thousands of accounts for its customers. So the number says more about network activity than about daily active adoption.
A ledger that's broadening
The account growth reflects how XRPL is moving beyond simple XRP transfers. Stablecoins, tokenized assets, and enterprise-friendly features are bringing new use cases. That's the real story — not just the account count, but the direction of the network.
The test ahead
The open question is whether these accounts stick around. The next test for XRPL is whether they're transacting, holding meaningful balances, and contributing to stablecoin transfers and developer activity. If they're just empty shells, the growth is less impressive.
