The XRP Ledger is set to activate its fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment on October 23 at 09:34 UTC, after 29 of 35 trusted validators backed the change. The amendment packages a set of fixes for newer DeFi infrastructure, including precision and rounding adjustments for vault deposits, withdrawals, and clawbacks. It's a cleanup, not a launch.
What fixCleanup3_4_0 actually changes
The amendment touches several areas of the ledger's newer code. It refines freeze, authorization, credential, and destination handling for Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol. Those are technical corrections meant to tighten how those features behave under edge cases. The projected activation puts the cleanup package into effect; it does not activate the broader lending market.
That distinction matters. The XRP Ledger's amendment process requires support above 80% throughout a 14-day voting period, with votes counted at flag ledgers roughly every 16.5 minutes. fixCleanup3_4_0 cleared that bar with 29 votes, and the countdown to activation followed. But the lending features themselves remain proposals with their own paths to approval.
The lending protocol still needs its own votes
The proposed Lending Protocol would use fixed-term, uncollateralized loans funded by depositors through a Single Vault managed by brokers. Credit checks happen off-chain, and there's no automated on-chain collateral or liquidation management. Some brokers may put up first-loss capital to absorb defaults before depositor funds are hit, but that doesn't erase credit risk. A documented example shows a 1,090-token default returns 10.9 tokens and leaves the vault with a 1,079.1-token loss. Missed payments trigger a grace period, after which the broker may default the loan.
The xrpld 3.4.0 release describes LendingProtocolV1_1 as an extension that adds closed-ended vaults and cash-basis accounting. Both the Lending Protocol and LendingProtocolV1_1 must each reach 29 votes and sustain the required support before their own activation countdowns begin. As of the October 19 count, the Single Asset Vault proposal needed at least eight more votes.
Validator governance remains the gate
Nothing about the October 23 activation speeds up the lending timeline. Validator governance is still the gating factor for any lending expansion on the XRP Ledger. The votes have to come from the trusted set, and they have to hold through the voting window. That's a deliberate pace, and it's the one the network is on.
Meanwhile, RLUSD payments and settlement developments form a separate track from lending. Ripple's Cross River API partnership illustrates that parallel work, but it doesn't change the amendment math for the lending proposals.
The next concrete marker is the October 23 activation at 09:34 UTC for fixCleanup3_4_0. After that, attention turns back to the vote counts for the Single Asset Vault and the two lending amendments, each of which still needs to clear 29 validators and hold that support before its own countdown starts.
