XRP Slips 8% After Rejection at $1.55, Analyst Eyes Pattern That Could Drive Rally

XRP fell nearly 8% over the past 24 hours after failing to break past the $1.55 resistance level, settling at $1.43 as of Tuesday — a 6% drop on the daily chart. The move extends a pullback that has traders watching a multi-year technical pattern that one analyst says could eventually send the token toward double-digit prices.

A familiar pattern emerges

Analyst ChartNerd has flagged a Cup and Handle formation that has been building since 2018. The cup portion completed during XRP's mid-2025 rally, and the handle has been taking shape since the asset hit its latest all-time high. According to ChartNerd, the $0.70 to $0.90 range could mark the bottom of the handle, an area that aligns with the 0.50 Fibonacci retracement level.

If the pattern plays out, the analyst sees potential for a move to $8 as a first target, with further Fibonacci extensions pointing to $13 and even $27. That kind of rally would require a repeat of the explosive expansion seen in 2017-2018, when XRP surged roughly 2,000% over several months.

Three retests and a 2017 parallel

ChartNerd also noted that since 2020, XRP has been building a pre-breakout structure with three distinct retests of an ascending support line — a setup that mirrors the 2017 cycle. In that earlier period, the token rallied sharply after similar support tests. The current pattern suggests that a decisive break above the $1.55 resistance could ignite the next leg higher, but the latest rejection shows the level remains stubborn.

What comes next

For now, XRP is trading below key moving averages, and the $1.43 level is being tested as support. A deeper correction could bring the $0.70-$0.90 zone into play, which ChartNerd identified as a potential accumulation area. On the upside, reclaiming $1.55 would open the path to the next resistance near $1.70. The market is watching whether XRP can hold its recent gains or if the handle needs more time to mature before a breakout materializes.
