Real Madrid is planning a massive transfer push for Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise once the World Cup concludes, a move that insiders say could reset the market for elite wide attackers worldwide. The Spanish giants see Olise as the long-term successor to aging stars and are prepared to shatter existing fee structures to land the 22-year-old.
Why Olise fits the Bernabéu blueprint
Olise has emerged as one of the Premier League's most dynamic creators since joining Crystal Palace in 2021. His ability to play on either flank, combined with a keen eye for goal and set-piece delivery, matches the profile Real Madrid typically targets for its galactico-era revivals. With Vinícius Júnior established on the left and Rodrygo growing on the right, Olise would provide depth and competition — and eventually take over the right-wing spot as the club phases out older options.
The French-born winger has registered 11 goals and 15 assists in 62 league appearances, but his underlying numbers — dribbles completed, chances created, progressive passes — put him in the top tier of wingers under 23 in Europe's top five leagues. Real Madrid's scouting department has tracked him for over a year.
What a 'massive move' actually means
The club's planned offer is expected to exceed €100 million, a figure that would comfortably break the existing record for a winger transfer. For context, the current record for a wide attacker sits at around €140 million for Neymar's 2017 move to Paris Saint-Germain, though that deal was inflated by a release clause. A €100 million-plus bid for Olise would signal that the market for elite wingers has permanently entered nine-figure territory, even for players who have not yet proven themselves in the Champions League or at a World Cup.
Crystal Palace, however, holds a strong negotiating position. Olise signed a new contract in August 2023 that runs until 2028, with the club under no financial pressure to sell. Palace chairman Steve Parish has repeatedly stated that the club does not need to sell its best players and would only consider offers that reflect the player's true value to the team. That value, in Palace's view, likely starts at €120 million.
The World Cup factor
Olise is expected to be called up by France for the 2026 World Cup, though he also qualifies for England and Nigeria. A strong performance on the global stage would only drive his price higher. Real Madrid's strategy appears to be to move quickly after the tournament, before other European heavyweights — including Premier League rivals — can enter the race.
The timing is deliberate. By acting before the summer transfer window fully opens, Madrid hopes to present Palace with an offer too large to refuse while avoiding a bidding war. But if Olise dazzles in the World Cup, that plan could backfire: more suitors would emerge, and Palace would have even less reason to sell cheap.
If Real Madrid pulls off the deal, it won't just be one club signing a player. It will be a statement that the price of elite wingers has permanently shifted. Clubs like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, all of whom monitor the same talent pool, would have to adjust their budgets and expectations accordingly. For agents and selling clubs, it would be a new benchmark — the 'Olise standard' — for negotiations involving any top-tier wide attacker under 25.
The World Cup kicks off in June 2026. Real Madrid will be watching closely — and preparing their checkbook.
