The 2026/27 Europa League kicks off 16 September with a new 36-team league phase, and crypto sportsbooks are already pricing the expanded slate. Dexsport tops the list for Europa coverage, followed by Cloudbet, Stake and Vave. Each book is taking a different swing at a season that ends in Frankfurt on 26 May 2027.
A format built for new markets
The league phase replaces the old group stage. Every club plays eight matches against eight different opponents, and the table sorts itself out: the top eight go straight to the round of 16, teams ranked 9th through 24th enter knockout play-offs, and the bottom 12 are gone. Matchdays fall mostly on Thursdays, with the occasional Tuesday or Wednesday slot.
That structure creates room for markets that didn't exist before. Qualification markets let bettors wager on whether a club makes the automatic eight, lands in the play-off bracket, or gets eliminated outright. League-phase position markets go one step further, covering a team's finishing range across all 36 sides.
Who's offering what
Dexsport comes in with 100+ markets on major matches, a public on-chain desk, self-custody of winnings, cash out, and an Anjouan licence. Cloudbet operates under a Curacao entity and leans on low margins for featured fixtures, with high limits for knockout ties. Stake keeps things custodial but adds streaming on selected matches and broad football coverage. Vave posts 300+ markets on major games and supports a wide range of coins.
The split is mostly about philosophy. Dexsport is pushing transparency, with the on-chain desk and self-custody aimed at bettors who want to verify the book's edge. Cloudbet and Stake chase volume and convenience. Vave bets on sheer market depth.
Villa's title defence is off
Aston Villa won the trophy last season, but they won't be back to defend it. They qualified for the Champions League instead, and the format no longer allows clubs to transfer between competitions from the league phase onward. The trophy is open, and the outright markets reflect it with no runaway favourite at the top.
Coverage gaps remain
Depth is uneven across the board. Books price marquee ties heavily, but fixtures between smaller clubs often get thin boards. For a format that runs eight matchdays deep into January, that's a real gap. Anyone looking to bet the full league phase at a single book will likely need to shop around.
The knockout play-offs begin 18 February 2027, and the final is set for 26 May in Frankfurt. Before any of that, the play-off round starts 20 August, with Matchday 1 on 16 September.
