NRG has benched Alexander 'br0' Bro from its Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) roster. The move, announced without a formal replacement, leaves the team with five active players and raises questions about the direction of the organization's competitive lineup.
The roster move
Br0, who joined NRG in early 2023, has been a consistent presence in the team's entry-fragging roles. His benching comes after a series of mid-tier placements in recent online tournaments, though the organization has not cited any specific performance issues or incidents. NRG's last public statement on the roster, before this change, praised the team's chemistry during a bootcamp in July.
The decision was communicated internally last week, according to sources close to the situation. Neither br0 nor NRG management have commented publicly on the reasons behind the benching.
What it could mean for NRG
Benchings in esports often precede a trade, a release, or a tryout period. For NRG, which has been rebuilding its CS2 lineup since the end of the previous competitive season, this move may signal a shift in tactical approach. The team has struggled to break into the top 20 of Valve's regional rankings, and a roster change could be an attempt to address that gap.
Internally, the benching could affect team dynamics. The remaining players – including veteran rifler Josh 'oSee' Ohm and AWPer Vincent 'V1c' Cerasani – will need to adjust their roles if a new fifth player arrives. NRG's next scheduled competition is the ESEA Advanced season playoffs in early October, giving the organization roughly three weeks to finalize a new lineup.
Br0, a 21-year-old Danish player, is now a free agent unless NRG places him on the transfer market. His individual stats on HLTV.org show solid opening-kill numbers but below-average impact in clutch situations. Several Tier 2 North American teams are reportedly monitoring his availability, though no offers have been confirmed.
The team has not announced a tryout schedule or a deadline for naming a replacement. For now, NRG will likely scrim with a substitute or a temporary stand-in as the roster situation develops.
