The Kremlin confirmed the meeting without providing details of the agenda, the length of the talks, or who took part on the Russian side. Neither the CIA nor the Russian intelligence service commented on the visit before Moscow's announcement. The confirmation itself is unusual, because intelligence contacts between the two countries are normally kept out of public view.
The last publicly acknowledged meeting of this kind took place in 2021. The gap since then has been long and crowded with friction. The new meeting does not erase that history, but it does show that a direct line of communication between the spy agencies remains
