As biobanks and genomic datasets grow, the need for secure, transparent data sharing and ownership becomes critical. Blockchain-based solutions (e.g., Data Lake, GenomesDAO) are positioned to provide infrastructure for consent management and data monetization. This study demonstrates the scale at which genomic data is being aggregated, creating potential future demand for decentralized storage and identity solutions.

A genome-wide association study combining data from the Estonian Biobank and the UK Biobank identifies many common and low-frequency locus–metabolic trait associations, enabling identification of putative causal links with disease outcomes.
