Red Sea/Gulf of Aden instability (Houthi attacks) has been a persistent background macro risk since late 2023, typically affecting shipping, oil, and safe-haven flows rather than digital assets directly. In a market where BTC dominance is high and altcoins are underperforming, geopolitical noise reinforces defensive positioning within crypto rather than triggering headline-driven buying.

Crypto markets are currently driven by macro factors: BTC dominance is high at 1.67T market cap, Fear & Greed at 71 (Greed), and altcoins underperforming. Geopolitical events in the Middle East have historically had muted short-term impact on crypto unless they threaten global energy supplies or involve major powers.

This event fits into a pattern of geopolitical headlines causing rapid sentiment shifts in crypto, but the underlying macro drivers (inflation, Fed policy, liquidity) remain dominant. De-escalation reduces safe-haven demand for gold but can also lower volatility, which may compress crypto's risk premium over time.
