The campaign to delegitimize climate attribution science fits a wider pattern of politically-motivated information warfare against scientific and expert institutions. For crypto, the relevant parallel is the ongoing fight over 'debanking' narratives and regulatory weaponization — both involve public-records requests, FOIA campaigns, and congressional pressure as tools of asymmetric political influence. If this campaign expands into ESG/energy policy, it could accelerate divergence between US and EU regulatory regimes, which has second-order effects on institutional capital allocation and tokenized real-world asset (RWA) climate instruments.

A Nature investigation identified more than 30 public-records requests since 2024 to US universities in a campaign questioning climate attribution science.
