While mainstream coverage focuses on the funding milestone, the key insight is that photonic chips from GlobalFoundries enable scalable manufacturing—a critical step toward a quantum computer that could break ECDSA within a decade. This accelerates the timeline for 'quantum risk' in crypto, forcing investors to price in a potential existential threat to current blockchain security models.

PsiQuantum raised $1B in 2025, is building a quantum computer with photonic chips made by GlobalFoundries, and is closely monitored by DARPA.
